Step-by-Step Guide on How To Program Ford Key Fob

Just grabbed a new key fob from your car dealership? Fantastic! Now, to get it all set up, you don’t need to be an expert.

Here’s a simple guide to follow:

Press the UNLOCK button on the driver-side door

First, be sure all your car doors are shut. Then, open just the driver-side door and press the UNLOCK button on the driver-side door.

Now, with a bit of quick action, turn your car’s ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 10 seconds. Aim to finish with the ignition in the RUN position. When you do it right, you’ll see the car doors lock and then unlock—it’s like the car’s saying, “I’m ready to learn!” (If the doors don’t lock and unlock, try turning the key a tad quicker. If it still doesn’t work, your car might not have this keyless entry feature.)

Next up, while the car is still in learning mode, press any button on your new key fob. You should see the doors lock and unlock again, which means, “Got it!” If you’ve got another key fob you want to program, just press any button on it within 8 seconds of the first one to get the doors to lock and unlock again.

Once you’re done, switch the ignition to OFF. The doors will lock and unlock one more time to say, “Programming complete.”

And that’s it! You’ve done some programming magic. If things aren’t going smoothly, no worries—our service team is here to assist. Just give us a call, and we can check if your key fob needs a bit more attention.

  2. Next, use the buttons on your steering wheel and press the left arrow to open the main menu.
  3. Look for “Settings” in the menu, select it by pressing “OK.”
  4. In “Settings”, keep scrolling till you see “MyKey” and then select it by pressing “OK” again.
  5. Once you’re in the “MyKey” menu, look for “Clear MyKey” and choose this option.
  6. To clear the old settings, press and hold “OK” until you see a message that says “All MyKeys Cleared” appear on your screen.

Is a Ford key fob battery replacement necessary?

Having trouble with your Ford key fob not responding? It might just need a new battery, not a whole new fob – which can save you both time and money. Usually, the issue is a dead battery. It’s simpler and cheaper to replace the battery than to replace the entire key fob. Plus, if you get a new fob, you’d have to go through the hassle of learning how to set it up for your Ford.

If you’re ready to get your Ford key fob working again, you’ll need a CR2032 3V battery and possibly a little bit of patience. Opening up the fob to change the battery might sound daunting, but it’s doable. However, if you’d rather not fiddle with it, our team is here to help! We can swap in a new battery for you and even guide you through the setup process, so your key fob works like new. This way, you’ll be back on the road in no time.

  1. Hello,

I’m currently working with a 2014 Ford Fusion and I need to program a new remote start fob. The original one was lost, but I have acquired a replacement from Ford. Could you please provide instructions on how to program it? Is it similar to adding another keyfob? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Best regards,
